This paracha is the eighth of the sefer Vayikra, in which G.od asks to Moses to tell cohanim the privileges bound to their priestly status, to maintain their purity: go away from corpses, even that of the close friend for Cohen Gadol, marry a virgin woman, not preside in state of impurity, cleanse itself before consuming offerings intended for cohanim in case of impurity.

God expresses then the defects preventing an animal from being approved, used thus, during an offering. He describes then the annual calendar, as well as the rites, the offerings and the associated parties, then He describes the daily ritual calendar, with the ignition of neroth, the preparation of breads of Sabbath.
