Vav name literally means "hook." This hook is a symbol of communication between the heavenly powers and earthly forces. Vav is also a ray of light connecting the various aspects of creating, uniting to form a body, in which each part depends on the link that connects the other. This primordial attached hook spirit and matter, heaven and earth in the process of the six days of Creation. the Vav word appears in the plural in the Book of Exodus (38:28), to refer to "hook": "With 1,775 shekels, he made hooks (vavim) for columns he overlaid their capitals and made their rods."
